If you'd like to create your own memory
book, here is how to do so:
-
The software used to create the books is freely
available on www.blurb.com.
Click the "Download" link on that website to download BookSmart (29
MBytes). Then follow the instructions. (You'll need to
choose a Username for yourself, provide an email address, and choose a
password. Then you'll be allowed to download and install
BookSmart.)
-
You'll receive an email from blurb.com asking you to
verify your email address by clicking on a link. Do so.
-
Once BookSmart is installed on your PC, you can run it
and create your own book.
-
The easiest way to create your own book may be to import
one that's already been created, and to replace its photos with your own
photos. Ellen Vernotzy has provided a copy of one of their
books that can be downloaded from this website and imported into
BookSmart. There are two versions of that book available; take
your pick:
-
Truncated
version of the Taylor Vernotzy book (18 MBytes). This
has only the cover, the front flap, and the first 12 pages of the
original book. It
should take less than 1 minute to download, if you have a fast
internet connection. After clicking on that link, click the Save
button and choose a folder to save it to.
-
Full version of
the Taylor Vernotzy book (474 MBytes). This has the
entire 124-page book. This one will
probably take at least 10 minutes to download, even if you have a fast
internet connection. After clicking on that link, click the Save
button and choose a folder to save it to.
-
Once you've downloaded one of those books, you'll have
to rename the downloaded file: change its file name extension from "zip"
to "book". (If your Explorer window does not display file name
extensions, you'll need to change the Explorer settings before renaming
the file: Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and uncheck
"Hide extensions for known file types".)
-
Start Booksmart, click on "Import Book" and select the
downloaded book.
-
To replace photos, go to "Get Photos" on the left-hand
menu and choose the photos from your computer. Once the photos
have been chosen, you can simply drag a new photo over an old one.
Size the photo to an appropriate resolution, so that there is no warning
about picture resolution.
